The A2991 display uses mini-LED backlighting with ProMotion for 120Hz refresh. True Tone colour adjustment is included. The calibration data lives in the display housing. With LCD only repair True Tone keeps working. Full assembly and True Tone doesnt transfer.

Impact cracks from drops are the main thing. The large 16 inch display has significant surface area. Pressure damage where something presses against the closed lid. The mini-LED display can fail in sections showing dark patches or distortion. Notch area damage from impacts.
The larger screen makes for excellent productivity but also means more vulnerable to damage.
Both chip variants use the same display assembly in the 16 inch chassis. Whether you have M3 Pro or M3 Max doesnt affect the screen repair. The A2991 model number covers both versions.
The Max has more GPU cores and higher memory bandwidth but display wise theyre identical.
