Non-Retina display repairs for A1286 models in Sydney
At Mac Screen Repair Sydney we work on the MacBook Pro 15 inch Unibody models from 2008 to 2012. The A1286 uses a standard resolution LED backlit display at 1440 x 900. These predated the Retina era and had a different display construction. We can replace the LCD panel and repair the display assembly.
The Unibody 15 inch was a workhorse. Many were used heavily and are still around today. Classic design with the silver keys and black bezel. We see fewer of these now but still help when we can.
The A1286 covers Late 2008 through Mid 2012. There were several processor and graphics updates across those years but the display remained similar throughout. Early models had the removable battery design. Later ones had internal batteries. The display repair process is similar across all variations.
These were the last 15 inch models before Retina displays arrived.
The 1440 x 900 resolution seems low by modern standards but it was standard at the time. LED backlit with decent colour. The display uses a glass panel with a separate LCD behind it. Different construction from the laminated Retina displays. Repairs are generally straightforward with available parts.
The anti-glare option on some models uses a different panel type.
Cracked LCD from impacts. Cracked front glass from drops or pressure. Backlight failures where the screen is very dim. LVDS cable issues causing display artefacts or no image. Age related degradation of the backlight LEDs showing uneven brightness.
These machines have seen many years of use. Issues reflect their age.
These machines are quite old now. macOS support ended years ago. For basic tasks they can still work but performance is limited. Repair makes most sense when the machine has sentimental value or specific software needs. Well give you honest advice on whether repair is practical for your situation.
