True Tone adjusts display colour based on room lighting. On the M2 13 inch Pro the calibration data lives in the display housing. As such LCD only repair keeps True Tone working because that housing stays in place. Full assembly means new housing and True Tone data doesnt transfer across.

Impact cracks from drops are the main thing. The Retina display fractures on impact with visible crack patterns. Pressure damage is another one where something gets pressed against the closed lid. The LCD can fail in sections.
