Impact cracks from drops are the main thing. The Retina display fractures on impact with visible crack patterns. Pressure damage is another one where something gets pressed against the closed lid. The LCD can fail in sections.
The Touch Bar above the keyboard is a separate component. If thats working fine and only the main display is damaged we just do the screen.
